Kaizen in our team and for your missions
Here at Granicus we are looking for someone exceptional to join our UK team. Not a data ninja, not a customer support samurai, but a kaizen master (even if they don’t already know what kaizen actually means).
Kaizen, for those of you not familiar with it, is a Japanese word which means “change for better”. Whether it refers to a one-off situation or something much more ongoing and long term, kaizen as a philosophy aims to help things be better than they were.
Over the years, this philosophy has been taken on board by major companies, most notably Toyota, where they have used it to empower every single member of staff to personally take responsibility for the success of every single part of their company’s work. Without going through all of their principles in detail, every worker is encouraged to:
- Always keep the final target in mind.
- Clearly assign tasks to yourself and others.
- Think and speak on verified, proven information and data.
- Take full advantage of the wisdom and experiences of others to send, gather or discuss information.
- Share information with others in a timely fashion.
- Always report, inform and consult in a timely manner.
- Analyse and understand shortcomings in your capabilities in a measurable way.
- Relentlessly strive to conduct kaizen activities.
- Think “outside the box”, or beyond common sense and standard rules.
Here at Granicus, it is these sorts of principles which are at the heart of the role of Junior Client Success Consultant which is currently being recruited for. We are looking for someone who is able to see things from the view of our public sector clients and really understand what they are trying to achieve, as the entire role is helping them to achieve all they can. Success in terms of outcomes, not simply success in terms of outputs.
You will need to have a keen eye for detail, too. We need someone who can analyse data and spot the things which perhaps need a little more focus and effort, but someone who also then has the ability to then make the changes needed. Here at Granicus we don’t get paid to simply have good ideas; we get paid to make them happen.
You will need to have the drive to constantly be looking for ways of doing things better and more strategically, whether that’s advising on wording and language, organising for new templates to be designed and rolled out, advising on ways of getting messages out to more people than ever, advice on how to better interpret data and analytics or helping train new users on how to get the most out of our platforms.
And, perhaps most of all, you will need to be brave. You will need to be willing to tell people that they can do things even better and have the communication skills to help them understand and to raise their ambitions. We aren’t just looking for someone to answer some questions if they get asked and perhaps share links to some training articles; we need someone who is able to inspire success both now and in the future.
At Toyota, the most junior member of staff still has the ability to press a big red button and shut down the entire manufacturing organisation if they see that something isn’t right. In fact, they are actively encouraged to do so.
